USS Yorktown Class Expeditionary Battleship

Under pressure from the Vulcans, the newly formed United Federation of Planets completed the "upgrading" of the Pioneer class to a new class of Expeditionary Battleship that lacked the 270-degree collimating laser beam systems. In place of these heavy weapons, the Andorians provided Phased-Laser beam emitters which collectively could produce similar levels of damage to the that of the collimating laser, but not equal levels. The new LN-40 warp engines replaced the older LN-22 warp engines. The new LN-40 allowed the ship to achieve higher warp speeds and generated lower, but comparable levels of power. The shield systems of the ship were designed by the Vulcans and provided the strongest protection of any Federation ship of the late 2100s.
